Responsibility in advertising

Responsibility back in the early days of advertising would have been simply to raise awareness to the consumers and get the products sold.
But the due to greed and the huge growth of the advertising industry our responsibilities have changed. Nowadays, as future advertisers, we have more responsibility, and it very important we know what they are because this industry's reputation is in need of a complete turn around.
Firstly, we need to realize that with all the media mechanisms we have today, with which we can use to show our ads and create awareness, should be sending out good messages. Especially since kids are ahead of the game when it comes to technology and are more likely to be exposed to all of the messages and ads we are creating.
WE need produce a change in the consumer. That is what we should do with the power that we have in this industry. Also this should be where we get our satisfaction and motivation when we do good advertising. We've got the power to open people's mind and make take this industry back to the days were it was still considered honest.
We should NOT abuse our power and send out messages of stereotypes, racism, nor sexism
And the last responsibility we have is to not lie to our consumers and public. We can influence a lot of people and therefore we should not try to fool anyone because:

A) consumers are smarter than most think
B)At the end of the day could you really feel proud of such ads that tell lies or are a variation of the truth. I don't think so, so why do that??
Remember we have the power! So use it to create good things!

Changing or forgetting the past..in the future?

Lola Rennt directed by Wim Wenders

Lola Rennt and The Butterfly Effect are just a few examples of films that are about changing or erasing the past in the present.
What if in the future we can erase, forget or change our past? What if we can go back in time, and make up for everything we have done wrong. Or change things, so we will be happier in the future? Or just forget completely what happened, who we are, and where we come from. Than we are able to start from scratch whenever we like. Would we or wouldn’t we?
Watch the Lola Rennt trailer that I posted above.
How realistic will this be in the future..Is it possible to make an interactive installation, to let someone experience the different stories of his or her past and the following outcomes and consequences? Or let a person experience how his or her life will look like by erasing or changing a experience? What is logic of certain people for things to have happened in a certain way on a certain occasion? What kind of decisions does a person make and based on and influenced by what?
However if we learn from the past, can we predict future decisions of people? And thus, future outcomes and results?
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW.

This should be posted in every school....

Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about 11 things the students did not and will not learn in school.
(He talked about how feel-good, politically correct teaching created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.)

Rule 1 : Life is not fair - get used to it!

Rule 2 : The world doesn't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3 : You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4 : If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

Rule 5 : Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.

Rule 6 : If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault , so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

Rule 7 : Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now.. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8 : Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

Rule 9 : Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.

Rule 10 : Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

Rule 11 : Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

I particularly like number 4,7,9. Most kids don't realize the reality of the real world. I know I certainly have not fully and don't feel ready for the real world yet. But I feel like Mr. Bill Gates has given us a pretty good definition of the real world.

GREAT TRUTHS

I recently got one of those annoying emails which get forwarded to people a million times over. But I found this one surprisingly interesting and funny.
Food for thought:

GREAT TRUTHS THAT LITTLE CHILDREN HAVE LEARNED:
1) No matter how hard you try, you can't baptize cats..
2) When your Mum is mad at your Dad, don't let her brush your hair.
3) If your sister hits you, don't hit her back. They always catch the second person.
4) Never ask your 3-year old brother to hold a tomato.
5) You can't trust dogs to watch your food.
6) Don't sneeze when someone is cutting your hair.
7) Never hold a Dust-Buster and a cat at the same time.
8) You can't hide a piece of broccoli in a glass of milk.
9) Don't wear polka-dot underwear under white shorts.
10) The best place to be when you're sad is Grandpa's lap.

GREAT TRUTHS THAT ADULTS HAVE LEARNED:
1) Raising teenagers is like nailing jelly to a tree.
2) Wrinkles don't hurt.
3) Families are like fudge...mostly sweet, with a few nuts
4) Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground..
5) Laughing is good exercise. It's like jogging on the inside.
6) Middle age is when you choose your cereal for the fiber, not the toy.

GREAT TRUTHS ABOUT GROWING OLD:
1) Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional..
2) Forget the health food. I need all the preservatives I can get.
3) When you fall down, you wonder what else you can do while you're down there.
4) You're getting old when you get the same sensation from a rocking chair that you once got from a roller coaster.
5) It's frustrating when you know all the answers but nobody bothers to ask you the questions.
6) Time may be a great healer, but it's a lousy beautician
7) Wisdom comes with age, but sometimes age comes alone.

THE FOUR STAGES OF LIFE:

1) You believe in Santa Claus.
2) You don't believe in Santa Claus.
3) You are Santa Claus..
4) You look like Santa Claus
